Thankfulness Nov. 9th

Today, I am thankful for the small moments with my girl. For instance, she likes to keep herself busy with any number of creative endeavors, but I ask that she not do them in the car. Instead, I like to sit and talk with her in the morning, before school. We put on one of our favorite radio stations, and we laugh over their antics. There are funny questions of the day, so we talk about goofy things, like what our favorite type of cookie is.

The afternoons are much the same, only a lot of our conversation revolves around how things went during school. These are the times when she confesses that she got caught working in her "business binder" during free reading, so the teacher took it from her... for safe keeping. (...and a little bribery, to keep her focused on work. lol ) I learn that she was taught "e" and "f" on the cornet, and that if you make your lips do *just so*, you can make a funny buzzing sound. Oh yes, and she shows me every single Star Wars character that she made via origami. Sissy puts them on her fingers and tells me the story of each one, and I tell her what a great job she did on them, while secretly wondering if she managed to learn anything in school that is more beneficial than origami. hehehe.  :D

I love these times. During the week, we don't get a whole lot of time to just be together. It was so different when she was younger, and she was home educated. We would go out to breakfast together on Thursday mornings, and share an "Early Bird Special" at one of our favorite diners. We would walk hand-in-hand through the mall, or do our grocery shopping. We'd snuggle together in a chair and watch a movie in the evenings, and read books before bed. Then, she had to go on and do that "growing up" thing.

I love my big girl, but that doesn't mean that from time to time, I don't wish to have my little girl to hug and hold again. Things are so different at this age. So, I enjoy all of the small moments when she is looking at me and talking to me, when we see each other as simple human beings for a few minutes. We just enjoy the company, until she gives me a kiss, and I send her off with my hopes that she has a good day at school. She gives me that crooked little smile that I adore so much, and she tells me to have a good day at home, too.

These are all the things that I am thankful for today.

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Messiah, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
